In 2000 Rolls-Royce and Bentley belonged to the VW Group, but RR was already a bone of contention between VW and BMW. The VAG men decided to offer an open Rolls again. In doing so, they did something that has a long tradition at RR/Bentley: rebadging.
Only this time the Bentley was first. Ergo the Azure of Bentley mutated into a RR Corniche. It’s about time! After 374 Corniche V, however, the production was already finished. BMW as the new owner of RR had different ideas.
The same applies to the Rolls-Royce Corniche V as for the Bentley Azure:
Elegant, noble, distinguished - and despite the reservedly designed form by Master Pininfarina, with a touch of snobbery:
That’s exactly also the Rolls-Royce Corniche as a parallel model on the platform of the Bentley Azure!
Anyone who drives this Rolls has all the material enjoyment of this world within reach - that is the message. Completely self-evident and unpretentious.
The Rolls-Royce, like the sister model Bentley Azure, breathes the life of the rich and beautiful on the shores of Côte d'Azur. And it brings something of it whenever it is encountered, or rather: whenever somebody drives the RR Corniche.
