First off: Ghia is pronounced "gia", not "chia". In the year 1915 the founder and eponym of the "Carozzeria Ghia" was Giacinto Ghia, born 1887 in Turin. He died in 1944 through a heart attack, which he suffered after his factory was almost completely destroyed by an air attack. In fact, it is completely superfluous - since Ghia still counts today - since 1970 under FORD direction - to the leading automobile design centers.
The Ghia 450 SS Convertible combines inimitable Italian designer chic and American large series: A 66 Plymouth Barracuda chassis (Chrysler Division) served the design of Giorgetto Guigaro as a base for the Ghia 450 SS. A total of 52 convertibles were sold exclusively through a Beverly Hills dealer. The turnover could certainly have the potential to be multiplied. However, the project was clearly based on exclusivity, design and image, not on quantities. About half of the 52 Ghias have survived and are now expensive collector's items. The one-time purchase price of 13.000 US $ appears to be ridiculous. The Ghia still looks fresh for more than 40 years after its premiere in Turin in 1966 - something like a Sophia Loren of the automobile industry.
We had the pleasure of being able to create a mahogany/copper-colored convertible top with an American partner.
It fit well.
In the meantime, one of the super-rare Ghia 450 SS was here in Pohlheim (see the pictures on our flickr-account)!
On this occasion we have built a construction for the otherwise chronically slippery side windows.
Approx. 3-4 of the remaining twenty-two Ghia are actually in Europe.
The next, please!
Attention!
Because of the small series production of the Ghia SS 450, the following applies to the dispatch of custom-manufactured convertible tops:
1) Old soft top to us (delivery address: CK-Cabrio GmbH & Co. KG, Siemensstr. 5c, Pohlheim D-35415, Hessen, Germany).
2) On the one hand, our manufacturing allows a fitting/adjustment at the car. On the other hand, this is only something for professional installers with relevant knowledge about how to handle it and how the convertible top gets its finish.
