The "German Thunderbird" was introduced as a coupé at the IAA in 1957 and has been built at BAUR since 1958.
Approximately five thousand coupés and starting from '61 still around 1.600 roadsters testify that the 1000SP despite the relatively long construction period did not get beyond a nicheness.
Clearly influenced by the "dream-car"-design of this time, the form-language still has a strong and up-to-date appearance. The "reng-deng-deng" three-cylinder two-stroker was not everybody’s taste.
But: This front-wheel drive vehicle with its four-speed(!) steering column gearshift is surprisingly good and nippy, has been manufactured very well - and is absolutely reliable with correct maintenance.
A real 60s classic for lovers and connoisseurs!

The assembly of a DKW 1000SP softtop is much more complex and time-consuming than it may seem at first glance. It takes us approximately 8 - 9 hours to get it done.
